IDS NXT Vision App-Based Camera

Traditional industrial machine vision systems use PCs to perform image analytics tasks. In the past few years however, there has been a trend to move the intelligence into the camera itself – called Smart Camera. Most Smart Cameras run conventional (non-AI based) computer vision algorithm such as OpenCV, but the very latest trend is for Smart Cameras to incorporate AI.

IDS NXT is a series of Smart Cameras for industrial machine vision applications. It’s built using Kortiq’s AIScale Machine Learning Accelerator IP which was embedded in a Xilinx’s ZU3CG device.

The key requirements from IDS included:

  • Machine Learning inference acceleration at <5W
  • Adaptable and configurable to support custom CNNs
  • Low-latency < 10ms
  • High reliability for 7/24 operation

One of our Embedded World 2019 demos was similar to the IDS Smart Camera. It featured a carousel of objects that were detected and recognized in a few milliseconds. The demo used Kortiq AIScale Accelerators implemented in Xilinx FPGA fabric.

IDS’ NXT Vision Camera was named one of the Top 10 Innovative Products for Machine Vision in 2019. We are excited to share such an innovative solution powered by Xilinx’s ever-growing AI ecosystem!
