Iress Reports Data Breach on Third-Party Platform

Australian-based technology company Iress identified and blocked unauthorized access to its space on GitHub, the financial software firm reported on Monday. GitHub is a third-party platform that manages its pre-production software code.

Iress says all client data is safe after the breach. It confirmed that it doesn’t keep client information on the third-party platform, and there is no evidence of any compromise to client data.

“Iress restricted access to GitHub immediately upon discovery and commenced a rapid investigation,” the company said. “There is no evidence that client data has been compromised as a result of this issue. There is also no evidence that Iress’ production or client software has been compromised.”

Iress, operating in Asia, Australia, and the United Kingdom, stated that the data breach is not expected to impact business operations, as clients should experience no difficulty accessing its systems.

“We do not anticipate any disruption to our business or our clients’ ability to use our software and systems.”

The company explained that the announcement was made to keep all stakeholders informed.

“Iress is making this announcement in the interests of transparency and keeping all stakeholders informed,” it said.

Iress also stated that it has begun strengthening access and security protocols as a precautionary measure. “The company takes information security extremely seriously and has notified relevant authorities,” it added.

GitHub’s Innovation Graph indicates that approximately 1.5 million developers in Australia use the platform, which lists about 83,000 companies.

Iress recently sold its portfolio management software to SecruitEase for an undisclosed amount.

“This divestment aligns with Iress’ strategy of refocusing on its core capabilities and streamlining operations in the UK and represents another step forward in our transformation strategy,” Iress group executive for the UK, Harry Mitchell, said.

“Our objective was to find a natural home for pulse that was in the best interests of our clients and people over the long term, and we’re confident we have found this in SecuritEase. We look forward to working with them on a smooth transition,” the statement continued.
