If the item rarity system in Last Epoch has you confused, we’ll help clear things up.

Eleventh Hour’s Last Epoch is a recent addition to the ARPG genre. Similar to games like Diablo or Path of Exile, in this game, you need to build your character properly if you want to take down end-game bosses and dungeons. Equipping the best gears and items for your character is an essential part of that.

When you’re just starting out, you’ll get low-level gears that add a bit of bonus to your character’s stats, but nothing more than that. However, as you progress through the campaign and start clearing high-level dungeons, you’ll see a significant boost in the quality of loot that you receive.

But how do you know which item is better? Well, looking at the stats is a good way to figure out the quality of the gear. However, you also need to look at the rarity of the item.

In this article, we’ll give you an in-depth explanation of the different item rarities available in the game and also offer a few helpful tips and tricks to farm them more efficiently. With that said, let’s get started!

In the Last Epoch, there are seven rarity levels for the gear and items you can find in the game world. The rarity of an item is defined by the color of its background. Here is a quick list:

  • Common Gears: White
  • Magic Gears: Blue
  • Rare Gears: Yellow
  • Exalted Gears: Purple
  • Unique Gears: Orange
  • Set Gears: Green
  • Legendary Gears: Red

1. Common Gears:

Common gears are the most basic types of items and gears that you can find in the game. When you start a new character, you start with Common gears. The drops from the early game are also mostly Commons.

At this rarity level, the items don’t offer any extra bonuses rather than the base stat. They also don’t come with any suffixes and can’t be upgraded to a higher rarity level. Common items are represented with a White background.

How to Get: Found at the beginning of the game when you start your journey.

2. Magic Gears:

Similar to Common Gears, Magic gears are also good only for the early sections of the game. They drop from basic mobs in the early stages. However, they can come with one or two additional affixes to make them slightly better than Common gears.

The main benefit of Magic gears is that you can upgrade them to Rare tier through the crafting option in Last Epoch. Magic items are represented with a Blue outline.

How to Get: Can be found from enemies during the early stages of the game

3. Rare Gears:

Rare gears represent the next level of rarity in Last Epoch after Magic gears. These gears have a Yellow outline and usually come with three or four affixes. You start seeing more and more Rare gear drops as you get towards the mid-game section of the game.

Rare items in the game are pretty decent and should keep you happy until you get towards the later stages of the game. You can craft Rare gears, but it’s usually better to just farm them when you’re grinding XP.

How to Get: Drops from bosses and mobs. Can also be obtained as echo rewards during the mid-game stages.

4. Exalted Gears:

Exalted gear is better for late-game builds when Rare gears start to fall off. The main thing that sets them apart from Rare items is that Exalted gears come with Tier 6 affixes. When it comes to stat boosts and bonuses in Last Epoch, the Tier level of the affixes is quite important.

For instance, if the affix on a Rare gear gives you a damage boost of around 70 to 100 percent, a T6 affix on a similar Exalted gear will give you a damage boost of 250 to 300 percent. For end-game builds, Exalted gears are always better than Rare gears.

How to Get: Obtained from end-game activities.

5. Unique Gears:

Unique gear is the next level of item rarity in Last Epoch after Exalted gear. These items come with affixes focused on specific characters and builds. You can’t change these affixes via crafting. They can drop from basic mobs in the late game or specific bosses behind high-tier dungeons.

These items also come with Legendary Potential that you can use to transform it into a Legendary item. Some uniques also come with Weaver’s Will that can add stacks of bonuses to certain affixes.

Unique gears are almost always a must for late-game builds. For example, when you’re playing a Druid build focusing on the WereBear form, you can find specific Uniques that reduce your Mana consumption when you’re in that form.

How to Get: Drops from random enemies, Monoliths and late-game bosses in the end-game stage. Also obtained by crafting a gear with a Rune of Ascendance.

6. Set Gears:

Set gears, represented with a Green outline, work pretty much the same way as Unique gears. However, what makes them special is that when you equip all the gear pieces in a specific set, the bonus of each stat gets amplified exponentially.

These gears usually come as a set of two or four gear pieces. Equipping them all at once is the best way to get the most out of Set gears.

How to Get: Obtained from end-game activities.

7. Legendary Gears:

Legendary gears are the highest level of item rarity in the game. Unlike Unique or Exalted gears, you can’t get Legendary gears as drops from the bosses or mobs. To get these gears, you need to craft them using the Eternity Cache in the Temporal Sanctum Dungeon.

Alternatively, you can also transform a Unique item with Weaver’s Will into a Legendary after obtaining 28 stacks. We have a complete guide on making Legendary gears in Last Epoch that you can check out to learn more about the entire process.

How to Get: Crafted from an Exalted and a Unique via the Eternal Cache. Upgrading a Unique with Weaver’s Will

Last Epoch is full of complex crafting mechanics that you need to learn and master if you want to survive the later stages of the game. Understanding the item rarities in the game will take you a step closer to completing your build and making sure you can take on all the end-game bosses without breaking a sweat. Good luck!
