Worlds is the pinnacle of League of Legends esports and the 2021 location features the best teams from each region competing internationally. This year, the event takes place at the Universiade Sports Center in Shenzhen, China. The venue is a 60,334 capacity stadium and also houses the Shenzhen F.C., a Chinese Super League sports team. The Universiade Sports Center played host to the 26th Summer Universiade in 2011, a biannual international multi-sport event for college athletes.

“We’re extremely excited to push the boundaries of entertainment and sport this year with Worlds 2021 and define the next 10 years of LoL Esports,” John Needham, Global Head of Esports for Riot Games said. “Shenzhen is China’s most competitive and innovative city with thousands of high-tech startups and entrepreneurial pursuits, so we felt that it was the perfect landscape to host our Finals.”

Esports Location at Shenzhen

2021 will be the third year that China hosts the League of Legends World Championships. Beijing hosted the 2017 Worlds while Shanghai hosted the 2020 event.

League of Legends esports fans are in for a treat with the prismatic architecture and design of the venue and Shenzhen’s Silicon Valley-like ecosystem. Shenzhen is one of the top cities in the country and counts high technology, finance, logistics and culture as the four pillars of its industry. It is also a global first-tier city alongside others such as Guangzhou, Stockholm and San Francisco.

Until Worlds 2021 starts, fans can look forward to MSI 2021 in the beautiful location of Reykjavík, Iceland. The tournament features the 12 winners from the various spring splits. However, Vietnam’s GAM Esports cannot attend the event due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. MSI 2021 kicks off on May 6 and will continue until May 23.
