LoL: Three Biggest Storylines Ahead Of LCS Week Eight

The LCS is back with another round of entertaining games. Find out three intriguing storylines heading into Week Eight.

The LCS is heading into its penultimate week ahead of the LCS Championships. There are battles to occur across the table with no team securing their seeding into the postseason. Last week, we got answers to some of the questions we were asking, but more questions posed too. With everything to play for, here are ESTNN’s top three storylines heading into Week Eight of the LCS.

Who will start Week Nine in first?

Things are going down to the wire in what is expected to be the most hyped finish to a regular season since 2018. Five teams have the opportunity to clinch a crucial top-two seed heading into the playoff, meaning they would only be one win away from securing a spot at worlds.

Currently, 100 Thieves and TSM occupy the #1 and #2 slot in the LCS standings. The difference between first and fifth is not huge. 100 Thieves are four wins ahead of TL, three ahead of C9 and EG, and one ahead of TSM.

Things are going to be interesting as we go down the stretch as all of these teams still have to play each other to decide who is seeded where in the playoffs. This is a great taster for the LCS fans as they will get to see how the postseason could shape out. Everything is to play for and all five teams will want to secure those top-two spots.

Golden Guardians vs FlyQuest for last playoff seed

Business is picking up as FlyQuest and the Golden Guardians do battle for the last playoff spot. Despite having a horrific Spring Split, the Golden Guardians are making a last-minute surge at securing the eighth and final spot in the playoffs. While there is still an opportunity for both teams to qualify, Immortals have the extra wins on the board and should wrap up their spot in the postseason this season.

Starting with GGS, they have been rock solid since the introduction of Eric “Licorice” Ritchie. The former Cloud9 top laner has brought Golden Guardians to life and has been like his old self since making the switch from FlyQuest. Licorice even bagged himself a Player of the Week award for his monstrous performances in his opening week, taking down 100 Thieves and giving TSM a run for their money.

Moving onto FlyQuest, the Academy roster came back down to earth this week as they went 1-2 moving into Week Eight. That being said, they did go up against the three in-form teams in TSM, 100T and EG. FlyQuest Academy has a great shot at reaching the playoffs, they play Counter Logic Gaming as well as rivals Golden Guardians in the final week of the season. With a very difficult schedule in Week Eight, if FlyQuest can go 1-2 at the minimum, they should have enough to make it through.

Can CLG revive their season?

The answer is they have a very small chance. Counter Logic Gaming has unfortunately fallen to tenth place in the league once again. The former LCS champions and MSI Finalists are a long way away from the team that inspired the region. Since the start of the 2020 season, Counter Logic Gaming has finished in the bottom-two four times, finishing in last place on two of those occasions. The roster has not yet found a win since the introduction of Tanner “Damonte” Damonte and is on a five-game losing streak.

It is evident the poor run of form is getting to the players. CLG faced the brunt of the community when their match concluded with Immortals. That match was labeled the worst match of the year and is up there for one of the worst matches in the LCS’s history.

CLG will have to dust themselves off as Week Eight rolls around. CLG takes on Golden Guardians in what is a must-win game. If they are to lose that, they can consider their hopes of reaching the playoffs gone. They are not mathematically eliminated if they are to lose to GGS, however, with tougher tests on the horizon, it will be a tough task for Counter Logic Gaming.
