MaxPax doubles, ByuN wins KR

Week #217 of the Open Cups saw MaxPax score a EU-NA server double while ByuN came out on top on the Korean server.

ByuN kicked off the competitions with a rarely seen perfect run on the Korean server, defeating NightMare, Astrea, herO, and Oliveira without dropping a map. While ByuN certainly impressed by winning in such dominating fashion, Oliveira’s run to the finals with wins over Creator, Cure, and Classic stood out as well.

Social media postings showed Clem traveling to Los Angeles alongside many other StarCraft II luminaries for an unknown event on Sunday/Monday, which left the door wide open for his cup rival MaxPax to take a European server cup victory. Mirroring ByuN’s performance in Korea, MaxPax also went undefeated on his way to the weekly title.

Clem missed the American server competition as well, but MaxPax faced plenty of stiff competition in the form of a large Code S contingent. Ultimately, it didn’t matter to the mysterious Dane, as he took down GuMiho (2-1) and Dark (3-2) in the final rounds to complete his weekly double.

In non-ESL cup competition, Cure won KSL #45 with victories over GuMiho, herO, and ByuN.
