Minecraft Snapshot 21w14a introducing Raw Ores in Minecraft

Source Node: 804122

Another day, another new patch for Minecraft. Minecraft Snapshot 21w14a is almost here, and it’s about to change a very core element of the game. With this update, the ore drop mechanics are about to change. During normal play, when you mine an ore, you get the ore block. The player then has to cook that ore in a furnace to get the ingot for use. The process of gathering and smelting ore is very unrealistic, but it serves its purpose in-game. When mining Coal, Redstone, Diamonds and other items, you also get the raw resource and it can be used right away.

As of Minecraft Snapshot 21w14a, that’s changing. The introduction of Raw Ores in Minecraft will mean that certain ores will drop as raw ore. Copper, Iron and Gold will have a new name and look, as well as a bit more simplified crafting. You cannot take the Raw Ores and use them for crafting directly. Instead of taking the blocks and making certain items, you just smelt the raw ore then use the ingots.

With the new patch, there will be three raw ores added to the game:

  • Raw Iron
  • Raw Copper
  • Raw Gold

This change will mean that the new ore types will work very similarly to Diamond, at least in some ways. When you get a raw form of Copper, it can be affected by the Fortune enchantment to farm for more drops. This is different from how it works now. Basically, the block dropping is being removed. When you combine this with the new ore block looks from a previous patch, it’s about to become much more interesting to mine and process ore.
