(Missouri Net) Missouri’s marijuana sales are helping the state Public Defender System to the tune of 1.2-million dollars this state budget year.
Last year, Missouri voters approved the legalization of marijuana, allowing some of the sales tax revenue to help provide legal help to low-income Missourians accused of a crime.
Missouri Public Defender System Director Mary Fox says the funding is being used in two ways.
Fox says social workers and other advocates help clients to get transportation, housing, treatment, and other services clients might need.
