New Border Wall Crowdfunding Raising Ethical Questions, Again

Source Node: 990094

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

The Texas Governor wants to continue building the Trump wall across the 1,200-mile Texas-Mexico border. (Only 80 miles was built by 2021).

The State has appropriated ~$250 million and now the Governor is crowdfunding the rest (he’s raised ~$829,000 as of last week).

The prior border wall crowdfunding efforts ended in the indictments of several of its sponsors, including Stephen Bannon, who was subsequently pardoned.

And the new crowdfunding effort is similarly off to a rocky start.

The San Antonio Current notes that this government effort is subject to political transparency laws and is finding that the donor class includes the likes of “Donnie Darko” and the “King of the Wild Frontier.”

So, for those who care about government ethics, the newspaper raises questions about whether dark money will again infiltrate the political process with those hoping to influence the Governor by “paying to play.”
