A Torrens Park home boasts a breathtaking contemporary modernist design and offers a life of pure luxury in one of Adelaide’s most popular suburbs.

Set on a 652sq m allotment overlooking ancient gum trees, the home at 6 McLaren St is on the market.

It was designed by Architects Ink and constructed by Blag Homes, with developer Daniel Harris of Otello saying the site presented a number of challenges that had to be overcome in order to create it.

“The first of these was the challenging nature of the incline of the property,” he said.

“Then we needed to consider how it interacted with the homes facing it and the third was the fact that it was on a flood zone, so we couldn’t build habitable rooms at the bottom of the allotment, so we created a floating section that cantilevers above ground level to be above what is a natural waterway.

“We wanted to create a private oasis and internalise the living spaces but still have the majority of the rooms with access to northern light, so orientation was really important.

“It was also really important to us to internalise the private courtyard, which has worked really well with this design.”

As well as being functional and perfectly occupying its place in nature, it had to stand the test of time, Mr Harris says.

“We’ve gone all out in this build,” he says.

“We really wanted to deliver an unprecedented level of quality with the building and finishes, so you’ll see natural terrazzo stone, timber finishes, all the balustrading is solid steel instead of aluminium, all of the windows are double glazed, and a real feature of the property is the electric ventral blinds which allow occupants to be able to control both light and privacy.

“No expense was spared and it has exceeded all of our expectations.”

Access to the home is via the upper floor at street level, which has a double garage, a master bedroom with walk-in robe and an ensuite, a courtyard, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area opening to an outdoor dining space.

An internal and external staircase lead down to the lower level, which has three bedrooms, a terrace, a lounge, a family bathroom, a cellar, a storeroom and a sparkling in-ground swimming pool.

“It would be perfect for a family with kids, particularly considering the schools in the area and Brownhill Creek is within walking distance,” Mr Harris says.

“I couldn’t imagine a better family home.”
