Nokia has announced the expansion of its Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) private wireless (PW) solution into several European countries, aiming to drive the IoT transformation of the logistics industry.

DAC PW Compact aims to provide reliable, secure connectivity for devices, machines, and sensors within micro fulfilment centres, warehouses, and other small-medium business sites. 

With the rise of e-commerce and on-demand delivery, logistics operators face mounting pressure to enable faster, more efficient processes underpinned by automation, sensors, and data analytics. However, legacy Wi-Fi networks often cannot provide the consistent connectivity and performance essential for deploying IoT devices and applications on a large scale.

DAC PW Compact claims to overcome these historic challenges by dedicating licensed, private spectrum to industrial and logistics environments specifically.

The industrial-grade private network ensures seamless mobility, security, latency, and capacity to interconnect autonomous guided vehicles, handheld devices, sensors, and assets throughout warehouses and across sites. This allows logistics companies to track goods end-to-end, orchestrate automated workflows, gain data insights, and create digital twins of machines and processes—driving productivity, efficiency, and new service opportunities. 

According to ABI Research, the European logistics market could lose over $1 billion in revenue during 2024 due to connectivity issues hindering automation. Nokia DAC PW Compact mitigates this risk by reducing Wi-Fi energy consumption by 60 percent and lowering operational costs.

DAC PW Compact also integrates with Nokia’s MX Industrial Edge (MXIE) platform to run edge applications that bring intelligence down to the device and machine level.
