The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the trade association representing the region’s technology community, today announced the finalists of the fourth annual NVTC Data Center Awards.

In celebration of our region’s continued economic growth and tech innovation, winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg, Va.

Virginia is currently the largest data center market in the world, with more than 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of capacity and a less than 1% vacancy rate. This translates into enough energy to perpetually power more than 2 million homes. The industry’s growth has benefited the economic climate of Virginia’s counties, including Loudoun, Prince William, Henrico and others’, amounting to $1.2 billion in state and local tax revenue. Additionally, the region was recently recognized by Cushman & Wakefield’s 2023 Global Data Center Market Comparison report as the number one global data center market.

The NVTC Data Center Awards celebrate individuals who have advanced and championed the region’s data center industry. This year, the award categories recognize data centers that have implemented innovative construction projects, energy-efficient practices and impactful community engagements.

“One of our tech hub’s unique characteristics is our expanding data center industry across multiple counties in Virginia,” said Jennifer Taylor, president and CEO of NVTC. “In fact, Virginia data centers supported 45,000 jobs and led to $15.3 billion in economic output in 2021. NVTC is honored to host the Data Center Awards and celebrate the award finalists who make such a positive impact in our communities and globally.”

“Data centers are the engines of the digital economy. As enterprises rapidly embrace digital transformation, data centers continue to fuel that transformation,” said Vinay Nagpal, chairman of NVTC Data Center and Cloud Community. “The NVTC Data Center Awards are a celebration of the stellar success of Northern Virginia as the leading data center market globally. On behalf of the entire leadership board, I congratulate all the finalists for their outstanding contributions to this important sector of the digital infrastructure industry.”

An independent panel of business leaders selected the finalists in eight award categories.
