Norwegian Plots Extensive Scandinavian Network From UK And Ireland In 2022

Low-cost carrier Norwegian Air is betting big on the United Kingdom and Ireland with 142 weekly flights between the British Isles and Scandanavia. In a statement released on August 13, 2021, the Baerum, Norway-headquartered airline said that for summer 2022, it would be adding new flights in this market.

Across its entire European network, Norwegian will offer 259 European routes from Scandanavian countries as travel restrictions ease and quarantine requirements disappear. The Nordic airline hopes that as more people become vaccinated for the coronavirus, international travel will see an uptick in the number of people flying.

Travel restrictions walloped Norwegian

When speaking about Norwegians 2022 schedule in a company statement Norwegian CEO Geir Karlsen said:

“We are pleased to be able to present our flying schedule for the next summer season. With this summer schedule, we will continue to deliver on our strategy of investing in Norway and the Nordic region. In recent months, we have noticed an increased demand from customers, and we look forward to welcoming them onboard to their favorite Nordic destinations.”

During 2020 and 2021, airlines were hit hard by travel restrictions and quarantine requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Norwegian believes that as the rate of people vaccinated against the virus increases, the risk of air travel in 2022 will be significantly lower.

“Norwegian is now well equipped to look ahead to 2022, although we will continue to some extent to be affected by the pandemic as the industry begins to recover. We have considerable flexibility in the use of our aircraft, and after the restructuring, we have lower debt, an adapted fleet, and organization, and we have received new capital. It has been a tough time, but the result is that we are stronger now than before the pandemic.” Said Geir Karlsen.

Norweigan is now only flying short-haul

After deciding to eliminate its flagship long-haul operations and concentrate on short-haul single-aisle flights in Scandanavia and Europe, Norwegian believes it is now on the right track. The carrier says that it is focusing on its core business at home and will continue to appeal to customer’s needs by offering competitive low fares across a broad range of domestic and European routes.

From London Gatwick Airport (LGW), Norwegian will offer 115 weekly flights to the following Scandinavian destinations:

• Oslo Airport (OSL)
• Stavanger Airport (SVG)
• Trondheim Airport (TRD)
• Bergen Airport (BGO)
• Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL)
• Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)
• Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (CPH)

From Manchester Airport (MAN), Norwegian will offer a total of eight weekly flights to the following Scandanavian destinations:

• Oslo Airport (OSL)
• Stavanger Airport (SVG)
• Bergen Airport (BGO)
• Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)

From Edinburgh Airport (EDI), Norwegian will offer a total of 15 weekly flights to the following Scandanavian destinations:

• Oslo Airport (OSL)
• Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)
• Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (CPH)

From Dublin Airport (DUB), Norwegian will offer four weekly flights to the following Scandinavian destinations:

• Oslo Airport (OSL)
• Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (CPH)

Norwegian is an all Boeing 737-800 airline

Regarding the airline’s now depleted fleet, aviation enthusiast website, ch-aviation lists Norwegian with having the following aircraft:
