One of the top football clubs in the English Premier League, Manchester City, has announced an expansion of its partnership with OKX, a leading crypto exchange and Web3 technology company. 

Representing a significant milestone in the convergence of sports and cryptocurrency, Manchester City and OKX have continued their partnership by incorporating the web3 company as the Club’s Official Sleeve Partner.

According to the announcement, the new partnership deal saw them sign a multi-year agreement which designates OKX as the Official Sleeve Partner for both the men’s and women’s first-team playing kits.

Before the expansion of the partnership, OKX and Manchester City had initially in March 2022 when OKX became the Club’s Official Training Kit Partner for the 2022/23 season. Throughout the partnership, OKX has utilized innovative Web3 experiences, such as the OKX Collective, to introduce its brand to millions of football fans worldwide. The OKX Collective has allowed fans to engage closely with Manchester City players and OKX Ambassadors, including popular figures like Jack Grealish and Alex Greenwood.

In addition to featuring on the left sleeve of the playing kits, the OKX brand will continue to be displayed on the left sleeve of the first team training kits. Furthermore, OKX will gain visibility across various digital and physical assets associated with the club.

The expansion of the partnership was officially revealed at an exclusive event held at the Etihad Stadium. City Football Group Chief Executive Officer Ferran Soriano and OKX Global Chief Marketing Officer Haider Rafique were present for the unveiling. The event showcased a ‘virtual reveal’ of the sleeve, featuring player avatars, and Manchester City legend Gaël Clichy also attended a media Q&A session.

During the event, moderated by Manchester City presenter Natalie Pike, Soriano and Rafique highlighted OKX’s vision of connecting with City fans worldwide through the partnership. They also emphasized the role of Web3 technology in enhancing fan engagement and creating immersive experiences for supporters.

Ferran Soriano, Chief Executive Officer at City Football Group, expressed pride in having OKX represented on the Manchester City shirt. He emphasized the shared passion for innovation between the two companies and praised the Web3 experiences created by OKX for the club’s global fan base. Soriano hinted at more exciting Web3 initiatives to come, describing the partnership as “very exciting.”

Moreso, Haider Rafique, CMO at OKX, described the journey with Manchester City as incredible, highlighting the rapid progress made since the initial partnership. OKX has embraced integration with the sport and has introduced various projects, including a metaverse and an NFT initiative, aimed at leveraging Web3 technology. Rafique expressed enthusiasm for the sleeve partnership, emphasizing the opportunity to collaborate with the club in creating unique and innovative engagements through Web3 technology. He assured fans that OKX would continue delivering amazing experiences whenever they interact with the brand.

Nonetheless, the partners have encouraged users to understand the workings of cryptocurrency as the value of assets, including stablecoins, can fluctuate, and profits may be subject to capital gains tax before they proceed into venturing with them. It noted that OKX is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and therefore, protections such as the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme do not apply. They further emphasized that past performance does not guarantee future results.
