This Overwatch League’s Grand Final is going to see some format changes. At the end of the global play-in tournaments, there will be 8 teams total that will go into a group stage. The West region will have their top 5 teams in the West region, while in the East region it is the top 3 teams. These teams will be drafted into two groups of four. There will then be a two concurrent double-elimination brackets to determine the top 2 teams from each group.

The four teams that advance from these groups will move on to the 4-team single-elimination Grand Finals bracket, with the three matches from this bracket occurring on Sunday, October 1. That will then culminate with the crowning of the Overwatch League’s newest champion!

This is a change in the format as the Grand Finals in 2022 only had the double-elimination group stage. Last season there were 12 teams total that made it to the Grand Final’s weekend with 6 from each region. This year there will be less teams, with the reduction to eight, but the addition of the 4-team single-elimination bracket right before the Grand Finals.

This new format will give the fans what they want of more great Overwatch to enjoy before the off-season. It will be exciting to see how the drafting process could make or break a team, as the choices will be essential.
