Technology is the major reason behind distracted driving. Is it also the solution?

Our cars and trucks are full of distractions, thanks to the ubiquity of cell phones, on-board “entertainment” systems, mapping software and other aspects of modern technology that serve to take our eyes off the road. They’re responsible for approximately 3,000 fatalities each year. And, of course, the consequences can be even deadlier when a commercial truck is involved. On this episode, we examine the problem of distracted driving, with the help of Stefan Heck, chief executive officer of Nauto, the developer of artificial intelligence-based software for driver and fleet safety. He believes that technology — which gave us all those driver distractions in the first place — can also be the solution. Today’s AI-driven systems can detect fatigue and inattention by monitoring the slightest change in driver behavior, he says. We also take a look at current and future regulations designed to toughen up on distracted driving. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
