Predicting NFL Over/Under

AFC East

Buffalo Bills- Over 10.5 Wins

Last season, the Bills won 13 games (one was a no contest). While the Jets and Dolphins may be getting better, the Bills are still the top dogs in AFC East. With Josh Allen being healthy this season, hitting the over shouldn’t be too hard.

Miami Dolphins- Over 9.5 Wins

Even with Tua Tagovailoa getting injured last season, the Dolphins won nine games and made the playoffs. There is a little risk in taking the over with Tagovailoa’s injury history, but Miami did add Bradley Chubb in the middle of last season and Jalen Ramsey this offseason to really improve the team.

New England Patriots- Under 7.5 Wins

Bill Belichick did a great job getting the Patriots to eight wins last season. With so many good teams in the division, someone has to finish last. Until Mac Jones can prove himself further, taking the under for the Pats is the move.

New York Jets- Over 9.5 Wins

The Jets had a good defense last season, but couldn’t get the offense going. Aaron Rodgers isn’t in his prime anymore, but can lead the Jets to the playoffs. If Rodgers can’t increase the Jets win total by three from last season to this season, it will be a failure.

AFC North

Baltimore Ravens- Over 10.5 Wins

Lamar Jackson has battled injuries the last few years. Even so, the Ravens won 10 games last season. If he can stay healthy, he can thrive in Todd Monken’s new offense. The division is tough, but the Ravens can be in the mix with over 10.5 wins.

Cincinnati Bengals- Over 11.5 Wins

After a slow start to last season, the Bengals got hot down the stretch, finishing the season at 12-4. If they take care of business early in the season this season, Joe Burrow can lead the Bengals to the number one seed in the AFC.

Cleveland Browns- Under 9.5 Wins

Cleveland won seven games last season, which started with Jacoby Brissett and ended with Deshaun Watson at quarterback. Watson looked pretty rusty and if he plays like he did last season, the Browns will hit the under on 9.5 wins.

Pittsburgh Steelers- Over 8.5 Wins

The Steelers had a bit of a rebuilding year last season and still walked away with nine wins. This is a credit to Mike Tomlin’s coaching ability. If Kenny Pickett takes a step forward, the Steelers can at least match their win total from last season.

AFC South

Houston Texans- Under 6.5 Wins

The Texans had a great offseason through the draft and should be able to improve from the 2022 season. A big leap of four more wins might be too much to expect of the team with a rookie quarterback, but the Texans can use the year as a building block.

Indianapolis Colts- Under 6.5 Wins

Indianapolis has a talented roster, but they have some issues. Jonathan Taylor has requested a trade. On top of that, rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson needs a lot of development. The defense and Richardson’s running ability could help them reach the over, but that is asking a lot.

Jacksonville Jaguars- Over 9.5 Wins

After making the playoffs last season, Jacksonville can take a step forward this year by having a better regular season. They won nine games, which was good enough to win a lackluster AFC South. With Trevor Lawrence getting better in year two, it is natural to think he is going to take another step this season.

Tennessee Titans- Over 7.5 Wins

Ryan Tannehill was only able to play in 12 games last season due to injury. If the Titans get back to running the football and letting Tannehill operate off of that, they can get back to over seven wins in 2023.

AFC West

Denver Broncos- Under 8.5 Wins

Hiring Sean Payton was a good move, but the Broncos are in a tough division. Russell Wison still has to find his form in Denver and the Broncos traded Bradley Chubb last season, which will hurt the defense. A little improvement could come from Payton, but going to nine wins is a huge jump.

Kansas City Chiefs- Over 11.5 Wins

Frank Clark and Orlando Brown are gone which hurts both the offensive and defensive line. It still isn’t smart to bet against Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. The Chiefs haven’t had under 12 wins in a season since 2017.

Las Vegas Raiders- Under 6.5 Wins

Acquiring Jimy Garoppolo to replace Derek Carr isn’t much of an improvement. Josh McDaniels hasn’t had much success as a head coach and given the tough division, it is hard to expect too much improvement.

Los Angeles Chargers- Over 9.5 Wins

The Chargers may have collapsed in the playoffs, but they won 10 games last season. The Chargers have invested a lot of capital into surrounding Justin Herbert with talent. If things go well, they should push the Chiefs in the AFC West.

NFC East

Dallas Cowboys- Over 9.5 Wins

Despite Dak Prescott getting injured last season, Dallas still won 12 games. Their defense was much improved and they added Stephon Gilmore in the offseason to add to it. While it will be tough to win the division, the Cowboys should win over 9.5 games.

New York Giants- Over 7.5 Wins

The Giants were able to bring back Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley for the 2023 season. Brian Daboll won nine games in his first season as head coach and now should be able to improve with the talent returning.

Philadelphia Eagles- Over 11.5 Wins

There may not be a more complete team than the Eagles. They went 14-3 last season and that mark seems like it could happen again in 2023. They were able to bring back key secondary players and offensive linemen this offseason so the over is within reach.

Washington Commanders- Under 6.5 wins

Sam Howell is getting his chance to start for the Commanders this season. Teams will stack the box and try to make Howell beat them. He has talented receivers, but it may be hard for the second-year player to lead the Commanders to too many wins.

NFC North

Chicago Bears- Over 7.5 Wins

Although they won just three games last season, the Bears unleashed Justin Fields. This offseason they have also supported him by supplying him with new weapons and more offensive linemen.

Detroit Lions- Over 9.5 Wins

The Lions nearly made the playoffs last season with nine wins. They have a good offensive line and are adding weapons on offense, including rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The defense has also received some support and with the Packers likely being worse without Aaron Rodgers, the Lions could win the division.

Green Bay Packers- Under 7.5 Wins

Jordan Love is getting his chance to start now for the Packers. It is hard to have complete faith in Love improving keeping the Packers as competitive as they have been given his performances so far. The regular playing time could help him improve, but it will still be hard for the Packers to win more than seven games.

Minnesota Vikings- Over 8.5 Wins

Kevin O’Connell did a great job with the Vikings in his first-year as head coach, winning 13 games. The early exit in the playoffs may hurt their perception, as well as moving on from key veterans like Dalvin Cook, but the Vikings should be able to win over 8.5 games.

NFC South

Atlanta Falcons- Under 8.5 Wins

The Falcons put a lot of money into their defense this offseason and then drafted Bijan Robinson in the first round of the NFL Draft to help the rushing attack. They will try to run the ball and play good defense, but Desmond Ridder will be asked to make big throws. The division is easier, which gives them some hope, but until Ridder proves to be a better quarterback, it is hard to see the Falcons winning more than eight games.

Carolina Panthers- Under 7.5 Wins

Drafting Bryce Young is a good start to turning things around for the Panthers. The defense still has some playmakers on it after the Panthers opted not to trade Brian Burns at the deadline last year. For the Panthers to hit the over though, Young will have to play out of his mind, which isn’t a fair expectation for any rookie.

New Orleans Saints- Under 9.5 Wins

Getting Derek Carr will help the offense and so too will Michael Thomas returning from injury this year. The Saints have some issues on their defense, including in the secondary that could hold them up from hitting the over. They still may win the division, but taking the over is too risky.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Under 6.5 Wins

Tom Brady has retired and now Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask will lead the Buccaneers. They’ll have good skill position players to work with, but the team isn’t the same as the one that just won the Super Bowl just a few seasons ago.

NFC West

Arizona Cardinals- Under 4.5 Wins

The Cardinals won four games last season and now have Kyler Murray trying to return from injury. They are a popular choice to have the first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Murray missing time really hurts their chances of hitting the over and DeAndre Hopkins being cut doesn’t help either.

Los Angeles Rams- Under 6.5 Wins

Matthew Stafford being injured and changes on the offensive line really hurt the Rams last season. This season they also have to deal with the loss of Jalen Ramsey. A healthy Stafford could get them to hit the over, but it is hard to believe that he could be 100 percent ready to go after how last season looked.

San Francisco 49ers- Over 10.5 Wins

The 49ers have a very talented roster from top to bottom. Quarterback will be the main question for Kyle Shanahan, as he could elect to start Brock Purdy, Trey Lance or Sam Darnold. Whoever takes the reins just has to play smart football and the 49ers can prove they are one of the best teams in the NFC once again.

Seattle Seahawks- Over 8.5 Wins

Not many expected the Seahawks to be a playoff team, but Geno Smith surprised everyone. With added help on their receiving core and secondary, the Seahawks should be able to flirt with a playoff berth in a less-talented NFC.
