ProLiteracy Worldwide Receives Dyer Pearl Literacy Award for Contributions to Adult Literacy

ProLiteracy was presented the Dyer Pearl Literacy Award at the Barbara Bush Foundation’s National Summit on Adult Literacy.

On Wednesday, October 20, 2021, ProLiteracy was presented the Dyer Pearl Literacy Award at the Barbara Bush Foundation’s National Summit on Adult Literacy. The event was held at the REACH at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. First Lady Jill Biden delivered the keynote remarks at the event.

Awarded by the Barbara Bush Foundation, the honor recognizes organizations whose work exemplifies 1) strong and successful community collaborations; 2) successful and/or scalable programs in family, adult, and/or child literacy; and 3) best practices in adult literacy.

The award is named for Rebecca Dyer, a longtime employee of the Barbara Bush Foundation and adult literacy advocate. ProLiteracy was one of the four national and community-based organizations to receive the award based on their exemplary work in the field of adult or family literacy.

The summit brought researchers, experts, and innovators from the field of education and adult literacy together alongside philanthropists and industry partners—with the mission of working together to solve America’s low literacy problem. The goal of the summit was to announce and discuss the National Action Plan for Adult Literacy. ProLiteracy participated in the five national planning teams that informed the content and goals of the National Action Plan.
