The long-awaited PS5 Digital Edition is finally making its way to India and will be available for pre-order starting May 17th from 12 pm.
Last year before PS5’s launch in India, it was speculated that Sony might skip the launch of Digital Edition in India and will only launch the base Bluray drive version in India. But looks like the plans have changed a bit and Sony has decided to launch the cheaper version in India.
A listing of the PS5 Digital was spotted on Sony’s official site — ShopAtSC.com. The listing suggests that the Digital Edition will be priced at Rs 39,990 and available only for pre-order at the official Sony retail site. Costing Rs 10,000 less than the base version, the Digital Edition will be an irresistible offer for someone looking to get their hands on a next-gen console and don’t need a Bluray Drive and are alright with buying digital game licenses.
While it is still Rs 5000 more expensive than Microsoft’s Xbox Series S in India, the PS5 Digital is way more powerful than the Xbox Series S as it is basically a disc-less version of the base PS5 console with the same specs.
Sources close to IGN India, report the console will be timed exclusive to ShopAtSC.com with other retailers getting stock from June onwards. The Digital Edition would be exclusive to retailers, so expect the quantities to be limited and scarce.
It is also the first time Sony is re-stocking the base PS5 in India after the initial launch in February and following the rally of fans against Sony with #RestockPS5India trending on Twitter in India.
