QM April HE Newsletter: New TOC options, QM conferences and awards, a #QMQuickTip and more
One of the more higher education focused items from the folks at QM. It is interesting that they have these regular higher ed newsletters, but the K-12 ones are much more irregular.

Lead Your Faculty’s Quality Effort
Want to deepen your faculty’s understanding of quality online course delivery? Starting May 3, member institutions with full or system subscriptions will be able to purchase a supplemental license to offer the seven workshops of the QM Teaching Online Certificate (TOC) independently.
If your institution has one of these subscription types, consider becoming an independent TOC Facilitator. By serving as an independent facilitator, your institution will be able to unlock new potential for quality course delivery and deepen its faculty professional development model. Plus, you’ll enjoy lower fees, as independent sessions only require the cost of your supplemental license, technology fees, and the cost of certifying you as a facilitator.
Get started:
- Purchase the license for your institution (starting May 3) by filling out the Supplemental Rubrics and Licenses form.
- Make sure you’ve completed the seven TOC workshops, then complete the new TOC Online Facilitator Certification course when it becomes available in June 2024.
Quality Course Delivery, Now Virtual
There’s another new option for completing the Teaching Online Certificate. Starting this summer, TOC workshops will be offered virtually — allowing faculty and adjuncts to complete them live online with other participants from the comfort of their own space. Look for listings of the workshops on the public schedule this July. Or, if you’re interested in dedicated sessions for your faculty, fill out the request form to get started. Lastly, the online/asynchronous modality is always available to help your team meet its goals.
Communicate Your AI Policy
AI is everywhere — you’ve probably used it yourself or suspected its use by your learners. Artificial intelligence tools are created to please those who use them — not necessarily to provide accurate information— so how do we help our learners maintain academic integrity while learning to use and leverage the most powerful new technology in a generation? It’s important that you let learners know your expectations for AI use and the consequences of falling short. This may be as simple as a strict prohibition of AI usage, guidelines for exactly how it may be used, instructions for how to cite AI sources, or critiquing AI responses.
In assignment or assessment prompts, be clear about when AI can be used and when it can’t. Doing so supports your learners in the new Specific Review Standard 3.6 in the QM Higher Education Rubric, Seventh Edition: The assessments provide guidance to learners about how to uphold academic integrity. Course and institutional policies with which you expect learners to comply are the focus of Specific Review Standard 1.4. Let learners know your expectations so they can use these new tools appropriately and with integrity.
Congratulations!
