Crypto.com bringing Web 3 education to LeBron James’ hometown with a new partner

Akron Beach Journal, a local newspaper in Akron the hometown of Los Angeles Lakers basketballer LeBron James, reports that Crypto.com has reached a partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation. The exchange joins the foundation’s I Promise program to educate the community’s kids on careers they can choose in the growing cryptocurrency industry.

In a statement, the four-time NBA champion told the newspaper that the move was to ensure that Akron was not left behind in the blockchain revolution. He noted that Crypto.com will help the community actualize this vision he has.

Crypto.com and I are aligned on the need to educate and support my community with the information and tools they need for inclusion. I’m looking forward to working with them to bring these opportunities to my community, James said.

A spokesperson for Kris Marszalek, the CEO of Crypto.com’s also told Akron Beacon that the exchange was proud to be working with James and his foundation. He adds that the program will help not just the community, but can then be replicated in others to help more people achieve financial independence.

Over 1,600 children enrolled in the foundation’s I Promise school and their families will participate in the program. This partnership is coming after Crypto.com recently acquired the naming rights to the Staples Center in a 20-year, $700 million deal. The stadium which has been renamed Crypto.com Arena is known to be the home stadium of the NBA’s Lakers and Clippers, the NHL’s Kings, and the WNBA’s Sparks. Another big marketing move the crypto exchange made was its TV commercial featuring movie star Matt Damon.

Crypto going mainstream through sports partnership

Other cryptocurrency exchanges have also been pushing for more visibility through partnerships with the sports industry. The biggest exchanges including Coinbase, FTX, and Binance are becoming more involved with the sports space. Coinbase is the official cryptocurrency exchange of the NBA, while FTX has deals with the MLB. Outside the US, Binance is one of the official sponsors of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
