Last night’s Resident Evil Showcase featured a Resident Evil 4 announcement, but maybe not the one you were expecting.
We thought it was even odds that Resident Evil 4 would put in an appearance at last night’s Resident Evil Showcase and there it was. But we didn’t get the remake were expecting; instead, last night saw the surprise announcement of Resident Evil 4 VR, for the Oculus Quest 2.
It’s not the first time Resident Evil has gone VR; if you had a Playstation VR headset, you could play Resident Evil 7 in VR, which was disturbing to say the least. But Resident Evil 4 VR is VR and nothing but, which has us very excited to get our hands on it.

We saw a brief glimpse of the game in action confirming that, as you’d expect for a VR title, the whole game takes place in first-person. We don’t know if the death scenes will cut to a third-person view; imagine the horror of looking down and seeing the bag-headed enemies chainsaws cut into your shoulder.
And, yes, it is Oculus Quest 2 only as far as we know; right now there’s no Oculus Rift version or Steam VR version. That’s understandable; given the sheer love Resident Evil fans have for this survival horror title, it could really drive Quest 2 sales.
There’s no definite release date, but you’ll be able to find out more at Oculus’s Facebook event this April 21st.
