We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Robert Abela, Malta’s Prime Minister, will join us at this year’s EU-Startups Summit for a warm opening and welcome to everyone at this wonderful location. Before becoming Prime Minister, Dr. Abela has had a distinguished career, working within the family law firm and serving as a legal consultant to various organizations, including public entities and trade unions.

Elected as a Member of Parliament in June 2017 and later serving as legal adviser to the Cabinet of Ministers, Dr. Abela took office as the 14th Prime Minister of Malta on 13 January 2020, following his election as Party Leader by the members of Partit Laburista. During his tenure, particularly through the global pandemic, he has outlined a future vision for Malta focusing on quality of life, infrastructure, education, environment, and good governance.

Under his leadership, Malta has achieved its lowest unemployment rate in history while navigating the pandemic’s challenges. Dr. Abela has also been at the forefront of implementing significant reforms in good governance and the rule of law. Notably, he relinquished the Prime Minister’s powers in appointing officials to key posts such as the Chief Justice, the Attorney General, and the Police Commissioner, marking a historic move to strengthen democracy and its institutions in Malta.

Join us at the EU-Startups Summit to welcome Dr. Robert Abela and to hear his insights and vision for Malta and the broader European community. Stay tuned for more updates and visit our event page for additional information about other speakers and the exciting lineup of activities planned for the summit.
