Sega finished off their Sonic Connect stream with a teaser for a new Sonic game, coming from franchise lead studio Sonic Team. The game will be coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2022.

There’s honestly not a lot to go on at this point, outside of the 3D graphics and a rather mysterious looking symbol.

Aside from that, the cinematic teaser featured the blue blur dashing through a forest, triggering some kind of digital effect and the looping off into the distance. Whatever could it mean?

Thankfully there was much more to the stream than that. Sega also revealed Sonic Colors Ultimate, a remaster of one of the better 3D Sonic games, coming out for all major consoles on 7th September.

These are also plenty of tie-ins with other games and events:

  • Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps – A new two-part animation Sonic having to journey to Sweet Mountain with the Jade Ghost Wisps in order to save all the trapped Wisps.
  • Sonic Symphony – A free virtual performance of Sonic music on 23rd June
  • Sonic at the Olympics – A free Sonic costume that your avatar can wear in the official Tokyo 2020 video game, coming on 22nd June
  • Two Point Hospital Sonic Pack – A selection of costumes for your doctors including Sonic, Knuckles, Tails and Amy, and in-game Sonic items to place around. Available on 30th July
  • Lost Judgment – Play Sonic The Fighters in the in-game arcades. Available 24th September.
  • Sonic Origins – a new compilation of Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD for modern platforms, coming in 2022
