Austrian online marketplace Shöpping is launching in Germany at the end of this year. By doing so, Austrian sellers will be able to reach a larger audience. At the same time, the marketplace will continue adding more retailers from the European Union to the platform.

Shöpping is an online marketplace that was founded in 2017 by the Austrian national postal service (Österreichische Post AG). It has grown from a start-up into a company with 40 employees, with a product range of more than 3.5 million items.

According to the company, several hundred thousands Austrians access the marketplace every month. All deliveries are carried out by the Austrian postal service itself, which enables CO2-neutral deliveries.

First international expansion

When the marketplace was founded, only local sellers were added. But since last year, the marketplace has added selected international suppliers within the European Union. This has increased its product range. Now, the company has announced that it is expanding internationally for the first time.

The launch is expected to happen in the fourth quarter of this year.

The launch in Germany is planned for the fourth quarter of this year. German customers will be able to buy products like electronics, fashion, regional food and delicacies, more than 6,000 wines, household goods, beauty and more.

‘Two birds with one stone’

“With our expansion into Germany, we are killing two birds with one stone. Our domestic retailers can increase their sales area tenfold and thus significantly boost their turnover”, said Robert Hadzetovic, Managing Director of Shöpping.

‘We have been seeing increasing demand from German customers for Austrian products.’

“As we have also been seeing increasing demand from German customers for Austrian products for some time now, this step will enable us to make our online marketplace accessible to a wider audience.”
