Singapore Airlines recently announced that it will be adding more services to Australia under its Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) flight network. The flag carrier currently flies to both Sydney Airport (SYD) and Melbourne Airport (MEL) from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), using a mixture of Airbus A350s, Boeing 777s and Boeing 787s.

The term Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) refers to an initiative by the Singaporean government to reopen Singapore’s borders once again. The scheme allows vaccinated travellers to enter Singapore on specific, dedicated VTL flights providing they have a negative test within 48 hours prior to their arrival in Singapore and have at least S$30,000 of travel insurance, among other restrictions.

Singapore Airlines launched these dedicated VTL flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Singapore earlier this month, on November 8th. Since then both services have operated on a twice-daily frequency, with Melbourne Airport (MEL) two daily services being operated by an Airbus A350-900 aircraft, while Sydney Airport (SYD) receives a Boeing 777-300ER and a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner once per day.

In recent days, Singapore Airlines has announced that it is expanding its quarantine free flights to three other Australian cities (subject to individual state border restrictions and travel requirements). According to the airline’s preliminary schedule, Singapore Airlines will resume quarantine-free flights between Singapore and Adelaide on the 15th of January 2022, using its medium-haul Airbus A350-900 aircraft and is scheduled to operate on a four times weekly basis.

Singapore Airlines will also commence VTL flights between Brisbane and Singapore on the 15th of December 2022. The carrier will again use one of its Airbus A350-900 aircraft and will operate on a twice-daily frequency with a mid-afternoon and late-night departures from Brisbane.

Perth is also set to receive VTL flights from Singapore, however, this won’t be happening until early 2022. In fact, Singapore Airlines stated that it is planning to resume quarantine-free VTL flights between Perth and Singapore from the 1st of March 2022. The carrier will operate three daily services to Perth which will all be operated by one of the airline’s Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner aircraft.

Despite announcing the resumption of these flights, Singapore Airlines stressed that these exact resumption dates for flights between Singapore and Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth fully depends on the entry requirements for those three cities. However, both Adelaide and Brisbane are planning to reach the 90% vaccination threshold by late December, which could trigger the reopening of quarantine-free international travel and allow Singapore Airlines to reinstate quarantine-free flights between the two countries.
