Today is Monday, March 25, 2024.

In March 2023, the Council of the University of São Paulo (USP) approved the creation of the Center for Carbon Studies in Tropical Agriculture (CCarbon), under the coordination of Prof. Carlos Eduardo Cerri, from the Dept. of Soil Sciences at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (Esalq/USP).

CCarbon will focus on five main areas: soil, plant, animal, atmosphere and digital tools.

According to the article by Alicia Nascimento Aguiar, “CCarbon’s main objective is to generate knowledge, technology, innovation, human resources training and dissemination of carbon-based solutions for tropical agricultural systems in conditions of reconciling the growing demand for food, fiber and energy with sustainability (environmental, economic and social)”

In other words, solutions to increase sustainable agri-food production, reducing GHG emissions and increasing carbon sequestration through smart climate management practices.

And take note. On April 24, 2024 it will happen the “CCarbon Soil Health Symposium: from the field to the socioeconomical & political perspectives”.

The event aims to present, discuss and advance knowledge related to soil health and its impact on the sustainability of agricultural ecosystems, as well as the political and market implications.

The submission of abstracts is also open in the areas of:

– Methodologies for Soil Health Assessment

– Soil Management and Health

– Public Policies for Promoting Soil Health

Registration until April 12, 2024.

In-person event at the Esalq/USP Engineering Pavilion, in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil.
