The PlayStation September Showcase happened today, and after a brief introduction from Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, the show began with one of its highest-profile announcements, with many more to follow. So, what happened at the show’s opening? To put it as bluntly as possible; Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting a remake on PlayStation 5.
The announcement comes with a brief cinematic setting the worldbuilding and some of the characters, and ends with a Sith Lord stepping out from the shadows, and drawing their Lightsaber. You can watch the brand-new trailer for the upcoming project below.
About Knights of The Old Republic and Its Remake
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, for those that don’t know, was released about 18 years ago, in 2003, on PC and Xbox, developed by BioWare and Lucasarts, and later ported to mobile devices by Aspyr. The game was an RPG that follows the player’s created character as they’re set in a galaxy far, far away, 4,000 years before the events of the movies. Darth Malak, a Dark Lord of the Sith, has unleashed a Sith armada against the Galactic Republic. The player character, as a Jedi, must venture to different planets in the galaxy to defeat Malak.
Reception-wise, the original game has been received with universal acclaim, and got turned into its own series, with Knights of the Old Republic II in 2004, and the release of the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic in 2011. The Old Republic’s seen eight expansion packs to date, with the most recent being Legacy of the Sith, releasing this Holiday season.
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic Remake is currently in development with no known release date, releasing on PlayStation 5.
