Boeing has successfully conducted the first flight of the enhanced AH-64E Apache Version 6.5 (V6.5), marking a significant milestone in the platform’s modernisation efforts. This upgrade introduces improved connectivity, lethality, navigation, and survivability capabilities.

The enhancements, including optimised route planning, enhanced Link 16 features, and an Open Systems Interface for greater interoperability, were awarded by the U.S. Department of Defense in December 2021. This development streamlines training and maintenance across the entire Apache E-model fleet, ensuring relevance into the future.

Furthermore, Boeing is collaborating with the U.S. Army to integrate the Improved Turbine Engine (ITE) into the fleet, which is expected to enhance the Apache’s reach, available power, time on station, fuel efficiency, and sustainment measures, such as health and usage monitoring, maintenance, and engine lifespan.
