Although we may never see a proper remaster of Ninja Gaiden Black, the impending arrival of Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection should still get fans really excited. It will put Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3 for the PC in one neat package for the first time ever. The games will all run up to 4K and 60 fps. However, the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection will leave us wanting when it comes to additional features.
Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection is quite a barebones affair, unlike Team Ninja’s latest project, Nioh 2. Producer Fumihiko Yasuda confirmed to PC Gamer that graphical options are not a priority for the ports.
In other words, Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection will have no additional features like 120 fps support or ultrawide resolutions. That is disappointing, to say the least. Most modern games have made these features more or less a staple.
The Steam port will also only support controllers. No mouse and keyboard support is included, although that was to be expected for a high octane action collection like this.
Different approach
For fans awaiting the arrival of Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection on PC, perhaps it does not matter much. However, for those looking to push the limits, the hope was to have extra features like unlocked framerates for Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection.
Perhaps porting three games that are close to (or more) than a decade old meant 60 fps would already be a big improvement. I cannot argue with that, but it does feel like a missed opportunity nonetheless.
Modders will likely do the heavy lifting on the features front once the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection hits PCs. An increased framerate, ultrawide support, and other bells and whistles might just make it then.
For now, we should just be happy Ryu Hayabusa still exists.
