Terpenes And How They Are Used In E-Liquids

Source Node: 1740933

If you’ve taken cannabidiol (CBD) or read up on it at all, especially CBD vape e-liquids, you’ll probably have heard of terpenes. This article is taking a look at what terpenes are, why and how they are used at Orange County CBD and what difference it might make to you.

What are terpenes?

Terpenes are organic hydrocarbons that are found within plants and are aromatic. The classic scent of pine needles that you might get when walking through a forest or when you get a Christmas Tree; that’s down to terpenes, and the same holds true for the citrusy smell and taste that you get from lemons.

The blend of terpenes present in any plant or substance will give it a unique smell and flavour, but, in addition to this, terpenes may have other potential therapeutic benefits, especially in CBD products.

The main groups of terpenes found in the cannabis plant are myrcene limonene, pinene and caryophyllene, amongst others, which are not only responsible for the unique smell combinations but may also have an impact on the body’s endocannabinoid receptors and, therefore, the body’s response to CBD, which contains specific cannabis-derived terpenes.

Many of these terpenes are thought to have specific therapeutic benefits but scientific research into terpenes and CBD in relation to health and wellbeing boosts is ongoing.

Do terpenes get you high?

Terpenes don’t contain any tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the compound found in cannabis that is responsible for its psychoactive and euphoric effect, in other words, the high.

This means that terpenes included in CBD products can’t make you high, but they are believed to enhance and add to the overall effect of some CBD products. Additionally, they are providing that authentic aroma and flavour that many people enjoy.

Why are terpenes used?

Whilst more research is still needed, the unique properties of certain terpenes and blends of terpenes have been linked to boosts in emotional wellbeing, such as supporting a happy mood or having a calming effect.

In CBD specifically, there have been observations of terpenes having a different or enhanced effect when compared to CBD use without terpenes included. This is known as the entourage effect.

The entourage effect refers to the theory that even small amounts of certain terpenes in CBD products can affect how the CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid receptors in a beneficial way. This could potentially mean that terpenes in CBD may be able to be used to help with specific issues, such as pain relief, to help with sleep or to help reduce inflammation.

There are currently studies underway to look at these potential benefits, amongst others, and the ways in which terpenes complement the effects of CBD.

How does Orange County CBD use terpenes?

Some CBD products do not only contain the CBD compound but also terpenes. Terpenes are usually found in the strongest CBD oils and vape liquids, including many of those found at Orange Country CBD, such as the award-winning Cali range of CBD e-liquids.

In these products, terpenes are used to enhance the flavour and aroma of the CBD e-liquid, with these compounds being extracted along with the CBD, to give a high-quality CBD vape liquid that is authentic and flavoursome.

Orange County CBD’s Girl Scout Cookies CBD e-liquid won the Product of the Year at the 2020 Cannavist awards, for the way that CBD, terpenes and other naturally occurring compounds are blended together to give a unique flavour and vaping experience.

Orange County CBD believes that innovation is at the heart of the CBD industry and is not afraid to try new things, such as previously untried flavour combinations and the infusion of terpenes, to help drive the market forwards and bring the best possible experiences with every product.

This approach has proved to be award-winning as well as being very popular with customers, with quality control and stringent lab testing being at the forefront of any product that Orange County CBD put its name on.
