There Is Optimism For an Immanuel Quickley Extension

Heading into the 2023-24 season, one of the biggest questions for the Knicks is Immanuel Quickley’s contract. He’s eligible for a contract extension, and the Knicks have until October 24 to get one done with him, the day before the start of the regular season.

Quickley will be a restricted free agent next offseason if no deal is reached by the deadline. If a deal is reached, the extension would kick in for 2024-25.

According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, there is optimism that an extension for Quickley gets done.

This comes after the 24-year-old had a breakout year this past season, coming in second in Sixth Man of the Year voting behind Malcolm Brogdon. On the season Quickley averaged 14.9 points and 3.4 assists per game, but when he started he averaged 22.6 points and 5.1 assists.

According to people around the league, his floor for a contract extension would be a four-year, $80 million deal. They all also believed a fair contract for Quickley would be in the $80-100 million range.

It’s also worth noting that he did struggle in the playoffs, causing Tom Thibodeau to lose faith in him. According to Katz, Quickely was “barely in the formula” by the end of the second-round series against the Heat.

Despite how he played in the postseason, he was one of the most consistent players on the roster in the regular season. Quickley is still an important piece, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens with him and the Knicks.
