Twitch Rivals Guilty Gear Strive Event Announced

Source Node: 1078196

Arc System Works’ latest successful project, Guilty Gear Strive, has an upcoming event occurring through Twitch Rivals, a differing brand from the titular streaming platform. The game’s made big pushes in terms of how fast its content is coming out, how well it’s selling, and its inclusion of rollback despite what Arc System Works has used for close to 13 years (being delay-based netcode).

Those things aren’t why we’re here today; as mentioned above, the game will be having a special tournament event happening soon. That’s great and all, and serves to be a potential showcase of the game’s new balance after Jack-O’, the game’s second DLC character, was released. So, let’s break down how exactly it works.

The way it works is that sixteen players, eight from Japan and eight from the United States, will meet in a special online bracket on September 17th (this coming Friday as of the time of publication). Broadcasted live on Twitch, the event will also host a special “Wild Card” match involving two players with the best match records with “a significant prize” on the line for the winner.

Winnings are set to be around $20,000 for players and can be seen live on the Twitch Rivals Japan stream on September 17th, 2021, at 7pm Pacific Time. Co-streaming for the event is also allowed and is open to all Twitch streamers. A question that could also be answered, though it hasn’t been confirmed yet, is, “Could the next DLC character be teased here?”

Guilty Gear -Strive- is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
