MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor has recently tweeted an interesting video, which shows a man claiming that in the future, Twitter can surpass Western Union as the biggest remittance company in the world.
The man demonstrated in the video how this bold claim would become possible. He said that he had just sent a Bitcoin to a man named “David” who, at that time, was at a Starbucks branch in El Salvador.
The man in the video said that David has a Strike account linked to his Twitter account, and he had sent him a $10 remittance payment in Bitcoin by using Twitter’s new tipping feature.
The transaction was made through Lightning Network, the technology that powers Twitter’s tipping feature. The service is currently available only on iOS users.
Through this total convenience and swift transaction, the man said that no one would use Western Union anymore for their remittance transactions.
A tip
Twitter has finally confirmed the rumors that have been going around for a while, about a Bitcoin tipping feature that might be integrated into its platform.
And since the rumors turned out to be true, Twitter would certainly transform into a whole new platform, miles away from its early microblogging platform image years ago. Through its new tipping feature, anyone can send Bitcoin to anyone in the world right inside Twitter. Twitter said that its new feature will soon be available for Android users.
Expanding Bitcoin adoption
Aside from Twitter, Bitcoin would also transform into a whole new currency, from being a sketchy currency in its early days to being one of the most recognized and trusted currencies in the world.
The new tipping feature is both a milestone for Bitcoin and Twitter.
SpaceX Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk and ARK CEO Cathie Woods also recognized the big role that Bitcoin would play on Twitter’s platform.
