UK Monthly Charts – Fallout dominates a quiet April – WholesGame

The top selling video game in the U.K. for April 2024 is Fallout 4, the 2015 Action-RPG from Bethesda, which has found new life thanks to the success of Amazon’s Fallout series. As with The Last of Us, a great series can significantly impact game sales, and almost all modern entries of the franchise made it into the top ten this month.

Fallout: New Vegas landed at No. 8, while the survival MMO title, Fallout 76, is No. 9, and barely missing the cutoff at No. 11 is Fallout 3. All four titles enjoyed steep discounts on every store front last month to coincide with the launch of the new series.

Notably, no new releases placed in the top of the chart, with the PlayStation exclusive Stellar Blade coming the closest, at No. 12. With no major new releases in April, the month was overall, a step down from last year by 7%. April 2023 saw the launch of two highly anticipated sequels, EA’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2.

The remainder of the top ten are holdovers, including EA Sports FC 24 at No. 2 and Sony’s smash hit, Helldivers 2 dropping to No. 3.

Console sales for the April 2024 have no silver linings, with an overall decline of 30% from last year. That amounts to 71,000 units sold, with Microsoft’s Xbox Series consoles posting the smallest loss, at under 25%, Sony’s PlayStation 5 at just over 25%, and the Nintendo Switch dropping 38%. While the first two can be halted by a blockbuster game release, at this point, rumors of the new Nintendo Switch will continue to cannibalize sales of the original console.

Accessory sales, however, were up from last year, by 7%, while falling from last month by 28%. There was a change at the top, with the White PlayStation 5 Dual Sense Edge outselling the Black PlayStation 5 Dual Sense Edge. Notably, second place is the White Xbox controller, breaking up the usual trend of Sony dominance with accessories.
