The League stage of Valorant Challengers League South Asia: Split 1 is finally over. We saw pure domination by some teams like Velocity Gaming and Orangutan while some teams couldn’t pick up the pace like GodLike Esports and Lethal Esports. The qualifiers lasted for 24 days, with 10 matches played in each group. The score table was topped by Orangutan at 48 points and had Lethal at the bottom at -51 points.

Valorant Challengers League 2023 South Asia Teams

The league included a total of ten teams from throughout the region competing fiercely for a chance to earn a spot on the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2023: Pacific/APAC Ascension and a piece of the enormous total prize pool of more than INR 1.15 Crore ($139,098 USD).

The ten teams were divided into two groups of 5 teams each, competing for the top 6 spots to qualify for the VCL SA playoffs.

Group A

  • Velocity Gaming
  • God’s Reign
  • GodLike Esports
  • True Rippers Esports
  • MLT Esports

Group B

  • Orangutan
  • Reckoning Esports
  • Lethal Esports
  • Aster Army
  • Medal Esports

Results & Schedule

The top 6 teams to qualify are Velocity Gaming, God’s Reign and True Rippers from Group A and Orangutan, Aster Army, and Reckoning Esports from Group B.

GROUP A

  • Velocity Gaming won 4 matches, 8 out of 8 maps played, and had a round difference of +47.
  • God’s Reign won 3 matches, 6 out of 9 maps played, and had a round difference of +33.
  • True Rippers won 2 matches, 5 out of 10 maps played, and had a round difference of -17.

GROUP B

  • Orangutan won 4 matches, 8 out of 11 maps played, and had a round difference of +48.
  • Aster Army won 2 matches, 6 out of 10 maps played, and had a round difference of +10.
  • Reckoning Esports won 2 matches, 5 out of 9 maps played, and had a round difference of +2.

As for the upcoming matches, the schedule is as follows:

Round 1 will be played between Aster Army and True Rippers and between Reckoning Esports and God’s Reign. Since Velocity and Orangutan topped their group’s leaderboards, they get an advantage, and will directly play in the upper bracket semifinals. Since it is a double-elimination bracket, losing one match will push the team to the lower bracket, giving them another chance to qualify.

Grand Finals will be played on the 23rd of April, 2023.

Format

In a double-elimination bracket, the top six teams will compete against one another.

Except for the grand final, which will host a best-of-five match, all of the matches will have a best-of-three format.

The winning team will go on to represent South Asia in the Pacific/APAC Ascension VCT in 2023.

Verdict

As for the teams in VCL SA, Velocity Gaming and Orangutan look the strongest so far, and as the winner would be representing South Asia in the Pacific/Apac VCT Ascension, we would hope that India would be one of the stronger contenders out there, putting our region out on the gaming map like other regions.
