Though suddenly and swiftly canceled in September 2020, Jackson Publick’s animated series The Venture Bros. will venture out again: Adult Swim announced on Wednesday that a feature-length Venture Bros. movie was in the works, along with new original entries of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Metalocalypse.

Though no specific release dates were announced, the original movies will all hit Blu-ray and VOD in an 90-day exclusive window before premiering on HBO Max and Adult Swim. The announcement coincides with the beginning of production on the projects.

Adult Swim and parent company WarnerMedia abruptly ended The Venture Bros. while Publick and collaborator Doc Hammer were writing season 8. Tweets at the time suggested the decision was a surprise to Publick, who thanked fans for their dedication to his weird, tightly knotted adventure comedy. “We also want more Venture Bros.,” Adult Swim tweeted in response to the outcry, “and have been working with Jackson and Doc to find another way to continue the Venture Bros. story.”

The effort worked out. Here’s the official synopsis for The Venture Bros. movie, which finds Publick and Hammer back in the drivers’ seats.

Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them.

According to the announcement, creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha will also return for the Metalocalypse movie, which will also receive a spiffy soundtrack release. From Adult Swim:

The power-hungry TRIBUNAL unveils their secret and deadly “Falconback Project” as the world grows in embattled chaos and the menacing Doomstar breaches the Earth’s atmosphere while the mysterious and twisted dissent of a band member threatens the future of Dethklok. Picking up directly after the heroic rescue of Toki Wartooth: Can Dethklok choose between their egos and the greater good of the world to embark on a gauntlet of dangers that will try their very souls and finally write the song that will be their salvation?

Details were scant for the next installment of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, which creators Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis will bring to life. The show premiered way back in September 2001 and aired 11 total seasons. This will be the series’ first movie effort since 2007’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.

The news of the original movies arrives in advance of WarnerMedia’s programming upfront, scheduled for next Wednesday, May 19, where even more details and plans are expected to be announced.
