Which path to choose in Pokemon GO is a new Timed Research event during the Dark Flames event going on right now.

“Choose your fate during Pokémon GO’s new event, Dark Flames! Fire-type and Dark-type Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild and in raids. Plus, the Fire- and Dragon-type Pokémon Turtonator, the Blast Turtle Pokémon, will make its Pokémon GO debut in raids! You might even encounter a Shiny one—if you’re lucky! Also emerging from the darkness is the Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon Mega Sableye, the Darkness Pokémon, making its Pokémon GO debut in Mega Raids,” Niantic said in the event details.

The path decision comes into play after completing the first part of the quest. Players will be prompted to choose between encountering Dark-type or Fire-type Pokemon.

Choosing the Dark-type path will prompt encounters with Carvanha, Sneasel and Scraggy. The Fire-type path includes encounters with Slugma, Alolan Marowak and Darumaka. According to Niantic, the path chosen will affect which Pokemon are attracted to Incense. As well, players can receive a Premium Battle Pass and 15,000 XP during the Timed Research. The Collection Challenge players receive will also depend on the path chosen.

Players should choose whichever path they prefer or which they’ll benefit more from, but having the Sneasel encounter in the Dark-type is enticing.

Players unsure on which path to choose need to move fast considering the event ends on July 2. Weigh up both sides and make a decision to get the maximum amount of rewards possible before Dark Flames ends.
