Team Spirit and Virtus.pro have become the first two Dota 2 teams to qualify for the second Major of the 2021 DPC Season. After Spirit and Virtus.pro’s 2-0 wins over Team Unique and EXTREMUM in the DPC 2021: CIS Upper Division Season 2, both teams have guaranteed themselves a top-three finish and hence, a ticket to the next Major Championship. While Virtus.pro has been as dominant as they were in the first DPC season, Team Spirit has seen a mammoth increase in form and gameplay execution. Both teams stay tied on the first spot in the points table – undefeated with five wins in five series.

Team Spirit and Virtus.pro secure themselves the 2021 DPC second Major slots
Team Spirit and Virtus.pro have secured two out of three CIS spots at the second Major – scheduled for June 2-13, 2021, of the ongoing DPC season. Valve is yet to announce the location of the tournament.
Virtus.pro had come into the second season as the favorites to not only qualify for the Major but also take the top seed. Though they had looked out of sorts at the Singapore Major, they were still expected to come strong in the CIS region. So far, they have incurred just one game defeat against AS Monaco Gambit – the series that they won 2-1. Other series in the league for Virtus.pro have been impressive 2-0 victories against Natus Vincere, Team Unique, PuckChamp and EXTREMUM.
On the other hand, Team Spirit had almost qualified for the Singapore Major in the previous season. In the ongoing DPC league, the team has looked in sublime touch, cruising to victories in most of their matches. Their solitary defeat came against Winstrike Team, but they managed to win the series 2-1 to maintain their 5-0 win-loss record. Spirit managed to defeat the other four opponents – Natus Vincere, AS Monaco Gambit, Team Unique and PuckChamp 2-0.
Though these two teams still have a couple of series to be played, they have mathematically assured themselves a top-three finish which grants a Major slot. Spirit and Virtus.pro will face each other in their next series on May 14, 2021. The outcome of this crisp battle will likely determine the team that takes the top seed and directly qualifies for the playoffs.
