5 fun Easter eggs in the new Among Us map

The newest map for the popular Mafia-style game, Among Us, launched March 31. It’s the game’s biggest map yet, and as players have discovered, it’s allowed for the developers to hide plenty of secrets in its nooks and crannies, including Easter eggs. We decided to round up some of the coolest ones we’ve seen, which include references to franchises like Super Smash Bros. and Halo.

Let’s start off by explaining something; The entire airship is a reference and homage to The Henry Stickmin Collection, which is a repackaging of popular flash games created by Marcus Bromander (also known as Puffballs United), an artist and animator at Innersloth. The airship from Among Us has the exact same design as the Toppat Clan Airship, which is an international criminal syndicate from the Stickmin series.

Halo

One of the most noticeable references is on display, literally. Perusing the vault you’ll find all sorts of goodies, like this Bloodblade from Halo. The sword on the ship has the same exact design, a dual-tipped red blade and circular hilt. While no Imposter currently wields this sword, it’s a nice touch for a game that came to Xbox One and Xbox Games Pass somewhat recently.

Super Smash Bros.

The airship has an homage to one of the most well-known video game courses of all time, Final Destination from the Super Smash Bros. franchise. It’s hanging on the north wall of the vault, though two Foxes are noticeably absent from the painting.

Banjo-Kazooie

This one requires a sharp eye, but it’s also in the vault. If you walk to the left of the room you’ll notice what looks to be a blue backpack sitting on the ground. If you inspect closely, it’s not any old junk sitting about, there’s a big beak under the backpack! A blue backpack and bird point to the infamous duo from Banjo-Kazooie. But it does make me wonder, what happened to Kazooie?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

In the armory, we see tons of guns, but if you walk south, you’ll find a set of weapons of a different variety. There’s a pair of sai, a katana, nunchucks, and a bo staff. The weapons and the colors on them match up with the members of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo.

Various classic paintings

Speaking of classical artists, there’s more than just general pop culture references. The walls are also decorated with classical paintings like Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

If there’s one thing that’s great about maps in Among Us, it’s all the little ways it manages to squeeze character into the little details of the maps. Whether it’s trash laying out or funny little decorations on the wall, this world has just been a joy to explore and all these details just endear us to the game all the more.
