Amazon might start selling NFTs in the future as the CEO of the company noted because the e-commerce giant believes in the future of crypto so let’s read more in today’s latest crypto news.

Andy Jassy, the Amazon CEO told CNBC that Amazon might start selling NFTs in the near future but he said that the company won’t start accepting crypto payments anytime soon and also that it doesn’t hold any BTC. Jassy’s interview happened right after releasing the first annual shareholder letter which made no mention of NFT, crypto, and BTC. However, when asked about them directly, Jassy said that he can picture the company selling NFTs down the road. NFTs are one of a kind digital assets that have official ownership recorded on the blockchain:

“You know, I expect that NFTs will continue to grow very significantly.”

Other giants like Twitter and Instagram also decided to integrate NFTs into their platforms but not to sell them directly. Jassy showed a lot of optimism for the crypto space and predicted it will get bigger over time. However, he doesn’t think that Amazon will soon add crypto payment options to its business operations. Last year, Amazon looked towards hiring crypto and a blockchain product lead but after Jassy took over, rumors emerged that Amazon planned to accept BTC for payments which were debunked a few days later:

“I don’t have Bitcoin myself.”

Amazon remains closed to crypto but Shopify partnered with Strike to integrate BTC payments. The latter company also plans to bring lightning network technology to merchants across the globe and provide lower fees. Strike CEO Jack Mallers also claimed to have been introduced to Jeff Bezos.

As earlier reported,  Jassy who made the comments in a CNBC interview said that he thought it was possible that the company could eventually sell NFTS. Jessy’s crypto comments came amid the recent speculation that Amazon could one day allow customers to pay using crypto. Amazon’s Advertising FinTech team looked for a Senior Software Engineer to work on the financial ledger and billing systems. The vacancy did not make explicit reference to blockcahin but the URL for the vacancy did.  Jassy himself also has a history with Blockchain after he replaced Jeff Bezos and he launched the cloud platform’s amazon managed Blockchain service.
