The Axie Infinity game is airdropping $60 million worth of AXS governance tokens to the early eligible players and the holders can now stake their tokens in the network with a $150 million worth of rewards planned for distribution in the first month. Axie Infinity became the biggest player in the crypto gaming space and the game exploded in popularity this summer especially and now the project is rewarding the supporters by airdropping some $60 million worth of governance tokens as the new staking feature rolls out.

SKy Mavis announced that it launched the long-awaited staking capability that allows AXS holders to lock the governance token in the network in exchange for gradual rewards. The governance tokens are a type of crypto token that grants its holders certain rights and privileges so, during the first month, Axie plans to give out 2 million AxS worth of staking rewards or about $150 million worth of the token’s current value. Axie Infinity will hand out 800,000 AXS tokens to all of the players that were a part of the community before the recent price surge for the token. The amount of tokens each user receives depends on other factors like the number of monsters and land plot NFTS, battles won and the market activity.

The funds will be deposited to eligible Axie users about 10,000 in total via their wallet on Ronin that is built on the Ethereum sidechain which launched earlier this year and minimizes the transaction fees and network congestion. The Axie players that haven’t linked to Ronin can claim their AXS airdrop. According to the Sky Mavis post, the airdrop is a gift to all of the users that helped form the bedrock of their “digital nation.” The AXS token was launched in November 2020 as a part of the progressive decentralization push for Axie Infinity so all holders will be able to vote on future game proposals.

Axie Infinity is the biggest NFT project of all time and in terms of total trading volume and $2.2 billion in total NFT sales to date according to teh data from CryptoSlam, the NFTs are a receipt for a scarce digital item. Amid the game’s summer surge, the AXS token skyrocketed as well. Sky Mavis co-founder Jeff Zirlin also spoke about the game’s rapid increase in demand and shared details about the upcoming enhancements and features like the battle system, the land-based gameplay, and the free starters for new players that want to try the game first.
