South Australians love a good church conversion.

Maybe it’s because Adelaide is known as the City of Churches, or maybe it’s simply because we have so many divine ones to offer.

If you’ve ever wanted to own a church-turned-heavenly home or try resurrecting a tired and rundown one yourself, now is your chance.

Several across the state have hit the market in the past few months – these are some of the best on offer.

This church in the state’s Mid North has already been transformed into the kind of home people pray for.

Created from what was the 1871-built Primitive Methodist Chapel and the adjacent 1923-built Soldiers Memorial Sunday school Hall, the buildings have been modernised.

Many of their original character features remain, including the stained-glass windows, while its contemporary interior gives it a new lease on life.

According to property records, the home last sold in October 2021 and recently hit the market again.

For househunters who like unusual homes that are a little outside the box, this church in the state’s Riverland region could be the perfect project.

St Alban’s Anglican Church and secondary building used as a Sunday school has hit the market for the first time since it was built in about 1960, according to property records.

The property is advertised as a chance to turn it into a “large family home with an open-plan studio ambience”.

It is being sold via an expressions of interest campaign without a price tag.

If the traditional design is more your style, this church in a small town of SA’s Mid North could be your next heavenly home.

The former St James Anglican Church at Yacka, which is on two allotments that measure about 4000sq m, was built in 1894.

Property records show it hit the market for the first time last month.

Turn it into holiday accommodation or keep it for yourself, the quaint property offers a range of opportunities.

Keen renovators could give this Adelaide Hills church and parish hall a new lease on life.

The circa 1876-built The Prince of Peace Anglican Church, which also hit the market last month, is listed with a $380,000 to $400,000 price guide.

On 845sq m of prime Lobethal land, the property includes the church, a parish hall with kitchen and a modest brick lavatory.

With a fresh lick of paint and some TLC, it’s the type of property you’ll be saying “Thank God” for when its finished.

Already renovated, this former church and hall on the Yorke Peninsula is offering a divine home you can move into and enjoy straight away.

It was once a Uniting Church but the 1954-built property is now a two bedroom, two bathroom contemporary home with several original features that pay homage to its history.

It has changed hands several times over the years, according to property records, most recently in May 2019 for $120,000.

It hit the market again in June and is being sold via an expressions of interest campaign.
