  • Microsoft is looking forward to moving ahead into Web3 space.
  • The company has integrated a non-custodial crypto wallet into Edge browser.
  • Microsoft has joined others to move ahead into Webb3 which includes a $20 million strategic round into the Web3 data warehouse in September.

Microsoft is one company that has been experimenting with blockchain technology for many years.

A pseudonymous software researcher from central Europe, Albacore, shared some screenshots on Twitter that showed that the company had added code that would incorporate a non-custodial crypto wallet into the default Edge browser of the company.

The screenshots show a crypto wallet’s user interface, a news feed, a decentralized app explorer and the potential to purchase via MoonPay and Coinbase. The improvement is baked in the Microsoft Edge browser’s recent releases though is hidden and inaccessible to users. Albacore mentioned that a number of things both created and tested by Microsoft never made it in the public eye.

The team at Edge is known for throwing imaginable stuff at the wall to see whether it sticks. The outdated gimmick features tried and removed by them is way too long. The Edge wallet works appropriately, said Albacore.

Internet Explorer was the first web browser by Microsoft and was released in 1995, the same year when Opera was launched. However, the company discontinued Internet Explorer and chose Edge last year while Opera has made various repetition of its browser as well as included a cryptocurrency wallet and connection for decentralized applications in the Opera Crypto Browser.

According to Albacore, Microsoft moving into crypto wallets could be an effort to provide similar products to the closest competitor of Opera, i.e. Brave Browser, a privacy-based browser packed with Web3 functionality.

In May, Brave added support for Solana in its desktop browser. Moreover, this month, it grew its self-custody wallet’s functionality and enabled users to purchase and sell crypto without leaving the integrated Brave Wallet.

Microsoft has worked with others to move ahead into this evolving industry, which includes leading a $20 million strategic round into the Web3 data warehouse Space and Time in September.

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed any details about the development of its Edge crypto wallet. A Microsoft spokesperson shared that they test new features to find out new experiences for customers. Currently, they have nothing to share though they are keen to learn and take feedback from customers.
