Dubai Police utilizes blockchain technology to issue 3,991 lost passport certificates since February.

This new service cuts the time it takes to register a lost passport, as per Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi. Notably, Al Razooqi is the Director-General of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Police. Normally, it takes four days to receive a certificate but the new service allows customers to get it faster in three steps rather than eight.

Brig. Al Razooqi adds,

Customers can apply for a lost passport certificate via the Dubai Police website, smart app, or via a Smart Police Station (SPS). Alternatively, they can avail the service through the blockchain-enabled service channels of the Dubai Public Prosecution, Dubai Courts, and the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs.

Brig. Al Razooqi explained that the previous service needed applicants to visit each participating entity before getting the certificate after four working days, by e-mail without the need to visit service centres.

Moreover, he highlighted the need to provide simplified service to the community. Along with the Emirates Blockchain Strategy 2021 that focuses on the technology to save effort, time, and resources.

Furthermore, the Dubai Police Force consists of a 17,500 strong police force for the Emirate of Dubai, in the UAE. However, they come under the ruler of Dubai jurisdiction, and they cover an area of 4,114 square kilometres. Also, a population of nearly 2.8 million people.
