  • Flare’s Canary Network, Songbird, has exited an initial 10-day observation mode
  • Songbird is moving toward the next phase.

Flare’s Canary Network, Songbird, has launched and successfully exited an initial 10-day observation mode. Flare is a decentralized smart contract platform that runs on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). It uses Federated Byzantine Agreement-based consensus.

Launched on September 16, Songbird follows three phases as it moves to be used to test and strengthen the protocols involving the final launch of the Flare Network.

The first phase, the “Observation Mode,” was concluded at 14.00 GMT on September 27 as per the team. In addition, this stage was necessary for deploying and testing the network and the Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO). What is more, Observation Mode allows roughly 65% of the value in the crypto industry to be used trustlessly on Flare with highly scalable EVM-based smart contracts.

Expanding further, the remaining two protocols are the State-connector and the F-asset contracts. These protocols will be used on Songbird for testing prior to the launch of the Flare Network.

According to the team, the protocols will let tokens native smart contracts directly access and be used on Flare in decentralized applications (DApps) like Metaverses, NFTs, DeFi, and Gaming.

Just like Kusama, Songbird aims to combine advanced testing networks and be a place for testing governance-based updates to Flare itself. Even more, many DeFi projects, data providers, exchanges, wallets and custodians, have already expressed their support and plan to launch and test their apps on Songbird.

Hugo Philion, co-founder of Flare Networks expressed his excitement about the project. Philion said,

Songbird marks a key step for the entire industry in enabling tokens on networks without smart contracts to be used trustlessly and in a non-custodial manner for the first time with scalable smart contracts. Over the last week witnessing the Flare community start to interact with the Songbird and particularly the FTSO has been wonderful for myself and the team to observe.

Furthermore, the team said that the deployment of the State-connector, which allows the state from any blockchain to be used by any smart contract on Songbird and Flare, is Songbird’s next phase of testing.

After this, Songbird will enter into an unrestricted phase. During this stage, the consensus is handed over to external validators, and the evolution of Songbird will then be determined by its governance and the community of SGB token holders.
