Healthy.io is collaborating with Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US to pilot a smartphone-based wound care technology aimed at enhancing the management of chronic diabetic wounds.

This pilot initiative broadens patient access within the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy department at Johns Hopkins Hospital to Healthy.io’s Minuteful for Wound solution.

The solution allows patients to conveniently and privately scan their wounds from home using their smartphones and the Minuteful for Wound app.

Care teams can use the solution for monitoring patients in real-time remotely, providing early interventions.

This approach is aimed at preventing severe wound deterioration that is expected to result in amputations.

The initial phase of the pilot programme has shown that 36% of patients experienced clinical improvements in wound management, and 94% found the system easy to use.

Encouraging results from the first phase have led to an expansion of the study across the US and Canada, focusing on the effectiveness of remote wound app monitoring compared with traditional in-person visits for treating lower extremity wounds.

Healthy.io CEO Geoff Martin said: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Johns Hopkins to utilise this innovative technology, which empowers patients and their caregivers to take an active role in their wound care management.

“This new patient-centered technology offers a convenient, precise and reliable solution for early detection and intervention, ultimately improving the patient outcomes and saving significant costs.”

Last year, Healthy.io partnered with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals to launch an at-home testing programme for patients with chronic kidney disease.
