The IQT The Hague conference, a pivotal event for quantum technology enthusiasts and professionals worldwide, will feature Gustavo Castro do Amaral, a quantum scientist at TNO. Castro do Amaral is leading pioneering research into integrating the quantum internet via space, a project that heralds a new era in quantum communication technology.

In a recent presentation at the University of Luxembourg, alongside Bob Dirks, Castro do Amaral unveiled groundbreaking findings on the hybrid ground-space network model. This model is poised to enhance long-distance quantum communication by leveraging the synergies between terrestrial fiber networks and satellite technology. The research underscores the necessity of a “ground/space switch” in every city to optimize real-time communication routes between fiber networks and satellites. This approach addresses the challenges of weather conditions, stray light radiance, and satellite orbital position changes, ensuring efficient and reliable quantum communication across metropolitan nodes.

Amaral’s work is a critical component of an ambitious roadmap developed by TNO. This roadmap leverages the organization’s extensive expertise in quantum technology, free space optics, and classical networks. This innovative research promises to significantly advance the field of quantum communication, paving the way for a secure, global quantum internet.

At the IQT The Hague conference, Amaral is expected to delve deeper into the intricacies of the hybrid ground-space network model, discussing the technical and logistical considerations involved in its implementation. He will also share insights into TNO’s broader strategy for advancing quantum communication technologies and the potential impact of these developments on various sectors, including cybersecurity, telecommunications, and data privacy.

IQT The Hague 2024 is the Netherlands’ fifth global conference and exhibition. The Hague is a Quantum Technology Event focusing on Quantum Networking and Quantum Security. Ten vertical topics encompassing more than 40 panel talks from over 100 speakers will provide attendees with a deep understanding of state-of-the-art developments of the future quantum internet and the current impact of quantum-safe technologies on cybersecurity and quantum computers.

The conference brings together corporate management, entrepreneurs, end users, technology providers, infrastructure partners, researchers, and investors working on current developments. IQT The Hague is organized by 3DR Holdings, IQT Research, QuTech, QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance), and Quantum Delta NL, who will bring leading organizations and professionals together in this important event. The April conference is “in-person” to ensure maximum networking and discussion at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre in The Hague.
