Contemporary painter Paresh Maity is set to auction off five of his abstract work on WazirX NFT Marketplace this coming March 4.

One of India’s most prolific contemporary artists, Maity took the initial step for mainstream artists to enter the world of NFT. Following this move to sell a rare collection of masterpieces on one of the biggest NFT marketplaces, Maity becomes the first senior artist to issue NFTs.

Aware that some modern-day art enthusiasts are not familiar with how traditional auctions work, he commented:

By going digital, [I] can reach out to an entirely brand new segment of art lovers and collectors worldwide.

A collection of five artworks will go under the hammer on March 4. Interested collectors may place their bids using the Binance network and the BNB mint currency. Three of the five assets are physical paintings by Maity that will come with NFT tokens. All the while, the other two pieces are NFT-only assets.

The token-added physical art pieces will be sold to the highest bidder starting at $110,000 and the solely NFT assets starting at $5,000.

Paresh Maity was honored for his expressive watercolor landscapes reminiscent of famed impressionists J.M.W Turner and Winslow Homer. Furthermore, his later figurative works were inspired by Rembrandt and Picasso. One of his latest works, The Indian Odyssey (2010), can still be seen at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

In other news, Ankara University announced that its curriculum will now include an NFT program, becoming the first educational institution in Turkey to offer such in its syllabus.
