Lebron James teams up with the crypto exchange Crypto.com to bring Web3 education to his hometown of Akron, OHio. The terms of the deal were not disclosed and mean that the exchange will not only support the foundation’s I PROMISE program that will develop Web3 specific content for the students that want to get a head start on the blockchain industry. James noted in a statement:

“Blockchain technology is revolutionizing our economy, sports and entertainment, the art world, and how we engage with one another. I want to ensure that communities like the one I come from are not left behind.”

The foundation invests in over 1600 disadvantaged students in the Akron area and provides training, resources, and mentoring to help to raise the high school graduation rates in the city. About 1100 of the foundation’s students are enrolled in the I PROMISE program to provide a class of third-grade students with more topics and tips on personal health, socializing ad motivation as well as academics. This is not the first time that James has teamed up with Crypto.com. The exchange paid $700 million for the naming rights to the Laker’s home arena, the Staples Center for 20 years. The stadium is now named Crypto.com Arena. The sum surpassed rival exchange FTX’s $135 million deal stuck a year ago for naming rights to the Miami heat arena for 19 years and it is called the FTX Arena. Crypto.com native coin CRO jumped 30% and set an ATH the day of the Laker arena deal and it carried on rising for a week so now it set a watermark of $0.97 in 2021. the coin is down 60% from its ATH amid a bearish start for crypto in the near year.
